🐢 Celebrating 500 Days of Writing ~ The Transformational Power of Slow, Steady Progress
Day 2 of Magical Momentum May
Today I’m celebrating a special milestone… 🤩✨
⭐️ 500 days of writing a minimum of 750 words a day. ⭐️
That’s 500 days of facing the blank page, through joy, tiredness, confusion, breakthroughs, travel, rest days, and everything in between. This journey has taught me more about perseverance and self-compassion than any strategy or to-do list ever could.

I've dedicated myself to writing daily, even when life didn’t always make that possible. There were days when I missed the page, but I allowed myself the grace to catch up the following day by writing double the words, and keep moving forward.
This practice has taught me that consistency doesn’t have to be perfect. It's about showing up with compassion and flexibility with life’s hurdles, no matter the pace. This kind of self-compassion has been just as transformative as the words themselves.
Choosing to stay in the rhythm, even if it wasn’t ideal, taught me how to honour my commitment without punishing myself when things didn’t go to plan.
This slow and steady devotion has shifted how I see myself. Each day I’ve take a single small step towards building self-trust, deepening my creative connection, finding flow and mental focus in a world of distractions, that is perpetually pulling us off-centre.
There have been highs and lows. Days when I typed out my words exhausted, lying flat on my back on my laptop, sometimes even on my mobile phone, while in bed. Eyes half closed and barely awake, all spelling and grammar thrown to the wind.
Some days, the words would flow. I was blessed with inspiration, exciting eureka moments and insights. I experimented with journal prompts and themes to help guide and structure my writing, and was sometimes surprised by the results.
Other days, I could fluctuate with no plan at all. I would blurt out my streams of consciousness, multiple lines of thought all racing each other to explode on the page first, often blurring together incoherently, making me question my ability to string a sentence together.
It hasn’t always felt profound or magical. But now reflecting back, having reached this peak of 500 days, it’s absolutely transformed me. I have deepened into self trust, confidence, and, having struggled so much to maintain it previously, slowly cultivated a belief in my ability to create a consistent habit.
💛 Creativity Loves Company
To put all this in context, some years ago now, it took me seven attempts to eventually complete Julia Cameron’s 12 week creativity course, as outlined in her renowned book, The Artist’s Way. As part of this journey, one of the practices is to do Morning Pages, 3 pages handwritten immediately after waking.
Ignoring Julia’s advice to find a “Creative Cluster” - a group of individuals on the same journey to support each other’s progress - I would repeatedly and stubbornly keep trying to go it all alone, setting myself up for failure time and time again due to a lack of any encouragement or accountability.
Eventually, I did manage to join an online group, and finally celebrated completing the 12 weeks!
What I’d resisted most was the missing link. I realised then that - like a forest - we thrive best in community, each tree supporting the others through unseen roots.
✨ Devotion Over Discipline
In my latest personal writing challenge, I chose this time to do it my own way. Sacriligiously, I bucked Julia’s advice that I’d adhered to over all these years of on-again off off-again Morning Pages: to HANDWRITE them.
Instead, I have been typing out my daily words on a journaling website called 750 Words which has allowed me to speed up my daily writing process, and not just in the mornings too. More often than not, lately I have gotten into a habit of doing my writing last thing at night, but as I shared in yesterday’s post:
My new commitment is to become DIVINELY CONSISTENT this month, building on my 500 days of writing with a new personal challenge to:
Meditate FIRST THING IN THE MORNING - DAILY to cultivate a more stable connection with my inner wisdom and more awareness in wrangling with my ego’s usual objections.
Write and PUBLISH on my blog DAILY throughout May.
Although, writing on 750 Words encourages me write at all times of the day - celebrating milestones, such as “10 Days of Writing after 10pm” with a Night Bat Badge, my newly awarded Spacebird Badge for 500 days in a row, and other such digital incentives - having experienced the contrast of too many late night writing sessions lately, I understand better now that Julia Cameron had a point. There’s a freshness and enchanted quality to capturing those heart whispers that bubble up from your morning dream state.
🧘♀️ Recommitting to Meditation
Emboldened by my now solid writing streak, lately I’ve recommitted to a daily meditation practice - currently 10 days in a row using my beloved Insight Timer app.
Looking back in my stats, I noticed I’d already completed a 33-day streak previously, without even tracking it consciously! It felt like a nudge from my past self saying, “You’ve done this before. You can do it again.”
This time, I’ve set the intention to triple my record, this time aiming for 99 days of meditation, with a clearer WHY: to nourish my writing, connect to divine flow, and root more deeply into presence.
To support this, I’m also making myself a visual tracker to colour in each day. Having something tangible, offline and visible will help me stay anchored in the practice.
🐢 Tortoise Energy
Earlier I was chatting to a friend about being inspired by dog or cat energy, allowing myself to rest, sleep or take yoga nidra naps when necessary, followed by intense bursts of activity when needed, and interspersed with basic self care.
But lately, I’ve been aspiring to embody the energy of the tortoise. Slow and steady wins the race. Trusting the process and continuing to put one step in front of the other. It may look slow and boring, but that is the type of consistency that gets you real results.
There’s a kind of magic in showing up quietly and consistently, even when it’s not urgent or sparkly. That’s the energy I’m celebrating today on my 500 days of writing milestone. The energy of ancient tortoise wisdom that rewrites old stories with gentle, quiet determination.
💛 Gratitude for Soulful Community Support
I wouldn’t be here without community. I have been part of many groups and circles, both online and off which have inspired my path and that I am truly grateful for.
This month, to support my momentum, I’ve joined a beautiful collective online space called May is For Momentum, a free group offering created by Soulful Business Doula,
.Éva has been a huge support since I launched my own community on Skool - Dive into the Unknown. I’m so grateful for her encouragement, enthusiasm, experience and presence.
I’m currently doing the meditation challenge within her group. It’s a truly nurturing container to receive reflective, soulful prompts and gentle nudges, and keep slowly but surely moving forward with grace, within a circle of support.
If you're looking for a place to build momentum in your own soulful business or creative practice this month, I wholeheartedly recommend joining Éva’s group. It’s a warm, wise and joyful circle of souls..
And, if you're drawn to working with the seasons, moon cycles, and intuitive alignment, you're always welcome to join me inside Dive into the Unknown, my own self care sanctuary for nature inspired growth, magical momentum and creative devotion.
🌿 Keep Going… Your Perseverance Is Enough.
Whether you’re on day 1 or day 500 of any habit or healing journey, I want to gently remind you: The slow, imperfect path is still progress.
Even if the path’s messy, wobbly or tangled up with weeds sometimes. Whether you’ve been going through winter hibernation mode, or spring shoots are bravely daring to peek above the surface, your quiet consistency, and slow, but steady perseverance are powerful.
And you’re allowed to celebrate every tiny step.
Thank you for witnessing mine. And here’s to yours. ☕️
✨ I’d love to hear from you!
